Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center is hiring a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician!

Job Duties:

Performs professional veterinary work under the supervision of a Veterinarian to maintain the health and safety of animals.

  • Examines all animals and their specimens for disease/illness and assesses treatment thereof.
  • Assists the Veterinarian in spaying and neutering of animals.
  • Performs laboratory tests, including urinalysis, blood and fecal examinations.
  • Prepares animal diets and medication as prescribed by the Veterinarian.
  • Works closely with the Oakland County Health Department with regulations regarding animal control.
  • Advises general public on care for domesticated animals.
  • Maintains data and charts for all animals seen at clinic.
  • Evaluates all incoming animals for disease and temperament and logs information on chart for review of Veterinarian.
  • Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
  • May perform euthanasia on animals under supervision of the Veterinarian.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test.
  • Must be licensed from the State of Michigan as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Have one (1) year experience working as a Veterinarian Technician or in an animal hospital setting.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical examination established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six month probation period.

Veterinary Technician duties include but are not limited to:

  • General practice patient care.
  • Surgical and hospitalization patient care

  • Treatments such as IV, IM, SQ injections and IV catheter placement.

Veterinary Technicians are expected to work rotating Saturdays with a casual on-call schedule. Salary range $18-$24/hr (depending on experience).
