Lori Cardenas, LVT

Lori graduated from Stautzenberger College in Maumee Ohio. She became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2005 and has been in Veterinary Medicine for almost 30 years. Lori has worked at various Veterinary Clinics, ER's, a Humane Society and has been in Practice Management for almost 10 years. Lori is currently teaching “Veterinary Assisting” to High Schoolers at the LISD (Lenawee Intermediate School District) in Adrian part time and Full time at a Veterinary Hospital as a Practice Manager and LVT. The highlight of her career was working the summer of 2019 with “Dr. Oakley the Yukon Vet” in Alaska and the Yukon Territory, Canada on her T.V. Show for Nat Geo Wild. Lori is in Season 8 for anyone who watches the show! In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and dog, Bindi.

Jennifer McLean, LVT

Jennifer has worked in vet med for 23 years and has been licensed for 19 years. She has worked in private and corporate hospitals giving hergood feel on how both are run. She is currently the HM at herhospital as well as continuing to work as an LVT.

She loves being an LVT and she's proud to tell people what she does. She would like to be able to tell our community in Michigan who we are and what we do! She wants to help our younger generation see what being a LVT means and how you can help companion animals and their parents.

Sarah has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician and Certified Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional at the Kentwood Cat Clinic for 12 years. In her spare time, she enjoys raising orphan kittens, assisting with local youth 4-H, and raising animals on her hobby farm.

Erika Pease, LVT, CVPM

Erika has been a licensed veterinary technician for 25 years and is passionate about supporting her fellow Licensed Veterinary Technicians. Erika graduated from Macomb Community College with honors in 1999 and earned her Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) accreditation in 2019. She has worked in emergency medicine but mostly enjoys working in a small animal private practice setting.  She enjoys working with patients and educating clients but her biggest enjoyment is leading her amazing team at a small animal private practice.  She has managed a practice for over 12 years and has enjoyed teaching and learning beside her team.  She enjoys continuing her education in many areas of veterinary medicine and then sharing and expanding that knowledge with other technicians. In her free time, you will find her traveling with her family, reading, or enjoying her time at home on her hobby farm with her family and their many pets.

Jessica has been in veterinary medicine for 13 years, with 11 of those as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Over the years, she’s worked in Emergency, General Practice, and Practice Management. She's passionate about all things veterinary medicine, but especially about creating growth and opportunities for fellow Licensed Veterinary Technicians.

Member At Large

Ann Wortinger, LVT

Ann is a 1983 graduate of Michigan State University and got her specialty certification in Emergency/ Critical Care in 2000, in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2008, and in Nutrition in 2013. In 2020, she attained her Elite Fear Free certification (Veterinary), and in 2025, gained her Fellow of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (FVTE).

She has worked in general, emergency, specialty practice, education, and management.  Ann is active in her state, national, and specialty organizations and has served on the Internal Medicine and Nutrition organizing committees.  She has mentored over 20 fellow VTSs and has worked on a variety of committees and positions.  She is currently at Appalachian State University’s Veterinary Technology Program as a Content Developer and Faculty, and an active speaker and writer.

Ann has over 50 published articles in various professional magazines as well as book chapters and a book, Nutrition and Disease Management for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses, in its third edition, coauthored with Kara Burns.

Her fur/feather/fin family consists of 5 resident cats, multiple foster kittens, chickens, guineas, and a pond full of goldfish
